American (English) remake of the French version of the HPI series (2021)
Line of Events
It follows Morgan, a single mother of three, and how, thanks to her exceptional mind, she can help solve a crime while rearranging evidence during her shift as a janitor at the police department. Despite her very high IQ, excellent memory, and extensive knowledge of the arcane, Morgan makes a series of basic legal mistakes that anyone who has ever watched.
TV law show would know not to make
In episode one, for example, she obtains a document from a locked safe in a suspect-victim’s law office that would never be admissible in court – illegally obtained evidence. It also could not be used to obtain other evidence – violating the legal doctrine of the “fruit of the poisonous tree”.
Remake of HPI (2021)
In episode 2, she has to be reminded to wear gloves before handling evidence at a crime scene, and in #3, she removes all documented evidence from the police station, completely breaking the chain of custody and also making everything she removed no longer admissible in a court of law.. First of all, it’s not a clone of "Bones" or other cop shows that deal with people with marketable skills when it comes to police work.
Like most shows that start out, it’s a little shaky
The girl is obviously good, although the acting maniac can’t keep up like in the first episode. The cops aren’t going to use someone who’s been sneaking in.
Unlike the portrayals of lab techs and the like in other shows, which show them as “off meds”
Second, the actor who plays Detective Karadec (Daniel Sunjata) is terrific, he was very good in “Manifest.” As shows like this get fleshed out and the characters fleshed out, they tend to get better, the flow starts to work. As for the talented Morgan, it’s hard to believe that someone with her skills hasn’t been snapped up by a tech company or a financial firm, but I suppose there are people who, despite their talent, couldn’t function in the regular world.
