Parthenope is a woman named after her city. In Greek mythology, Parthenope was a siren who committed suicide after failing to charm Odysseus.

The script was written by Peter Gregson

Her body was washed up by the tide to where Castel dell’Ovo is now, and she gave her name to the city that later became Neapolis, Naples. In the film, Parthenope is the embodiment of the city of Naples.

The main problem with Parthenope is that it doesn’t add anything new to Paolo Sorrentino’s film. Too many familiar scenes, too much madness that has already been depicted, too much behavior that is endlessly repeated.

I really enjoy Sorrentino’s cinema, but the euphoria I felt leaving the theater after watching The Consequences of Love is now a faint memory, like faded summer youth

While it’s true that cigarettes have become a signature of the director, when every actor—from the beautiful lead to the background extras—lights one, it quickly becomes loud, but not entirely funny.
