Three members of a multi-generational Afghan family start their lives anew in Iran as refugees, unaware that they are facing a decades-long struggle to be “home.” We saw this film at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival. “Told in Three Stories. In the Land of Brothers” manages to capture the essence, complications, and heartbreaking scenarios of political conflicts, relationships, culture, and the harshness of reality. The filmmakers managed to capture the themes, tone, and scenario of each of the three stories, with good emotions, interesting characters, and moments that created tension and despondency without feeling mawkish or over the top. Each of the characters and the scenario were handled with maturity, and all the performances by the cast members are good. It really brought out the emotions between the characters and the heart of the message and purpose of the film. The cinematography, set design, and soundtrack are beautiful. There were moments that were touching and I felt sad watching them. Personally, the first and third stories still impress the most. Although the second part has some shortcomings in pacing, it was still good. Overall, the film deserves to be called another good Iranian film.
